What does a garage door center plate do?
The center plate sits in the middle of the torsion shaft. The spring anchor plate holds the stationary (winding) cones of the torsion springs in place, and the center bearing support carries the shaft and lets it spin. Together they anchor the spring system at the center of the door.
How do I choose the right spring anchor plate?
Match it to your torsion spring's inside diameter and the hand (left or right), and to how your springs mount. We carry universal left- and right-hand plates plus brand-specific options for Clopay EZ-Set and Raynor systems.
What bore size center bearing support do I need?
Match the bore to your torsion shaft - usually 1" on residential doors and 1-1/4" on heavier commercial doors - and the support size to your bracket. Match your existing support if you can.
Can I replace a center plate myself?
It involves the torsion shaft and springs, which are under tension. The springs must be unwound before the center plate can be safely removed. If you are not comfortable with spring tension, have a professional handle it.
