How it fits
- Measure the height of the door's top section.
- Fasten the reinforcement bracket to the inside of the top section, centered under the opener rail, using the door maker's recommended hardware.
- Attach the opener's door bracket to the reinforcement bracket and connect the door arm with the clevis pin.
Door bowing as well? Add a strut. Need the opener's own bracket? See door brackets. Questions? Call 877-379-4947.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a garage door opener reinforcement bracket?
Yes, on most sectional doors. The opener pulls on the top section, and a reinforcement bracket spreads that force across the section so the door bracket doesn't bend or tear the panel. It's especially important on thin steel and aluminum doors.
What size reinforcement bracket do I need?
Match the bracket to the height of your door's top section: 18", 21" or 24". If you aren't sure, or your door has an unusual section height, the adjustable bracket fits 18" to 24" sections.
Is a reinforcement bracket the same as a strut?
No. A reinforcement bracket is a short vertical plate behind the opener's door bracket. A strut is a long horizontal brace across a section that stops the door bowing. Many doors use both.
